I’m really not that old. However, when I start to think about high school and middle school, I’m reminded of how long ago that really was. I had a lot of fun during those years. I made some of my life-long friends then. That’s even when I met my husband! Some friends would come and some would go, but the true ones always stuck around. I remember our sleepovers, football games, and talking on the phone for hours.
A real phone, by the way.
We weren’t lucky enough to have cell phones then. Our phones had cords or ranges of 200 feet. It was a good way for our moms to keep tabs on us come to think of it! We definitely couldn’t go very far.
I also remember that those years were very hard. There was a lot of pressure to fit in and to be considered “popular” was an achievement. A girl’s identity begins to form around this time. So many changes take place and things seem really intense. Everything is intense. Feelings, thoughts, words. It’s a pivotal time in a girl’s life.
When I was 11, my parents got divorced. It was by far, one of the most devastating experiences of my life. It came at the worst possible time for my self-esteem. I felt lost. My dad wasn’t around anymore like I was used to. The world’s influences spoke so loudly. I didn’t go to church anymore. I began to look for my value in the approval of others.
I had no idea that the One and only approval necessary had already been granted to me.
Young women need so badly to understand their worth. They need to know that beyond the social pressures, expectations, and cliques, that God is doing a marvelous work within their lives. He has a plan and a purpose for every single one. He also sees each one as beautiful.

I got the opportunity to read the book Free To Be Me by Stasi Eldredge recently. Can I just tell you that this book is everything I needed to hear when I was letting the world tell me how it is. Stasi does an incredible job of using her past hurts and mistakes to really speak truth into young women’s lives. Even as a grown woman, I found lots points that I could use reminders of.
This book is for teenagers and would be a perfect gift for a daughter or niece. Any girl that you know really. I will saving this book for both of my daughters to read when it comes time. Such a fantastic resource that I only wish I had when I was that age.

My High School memory….hmm…I had a pretty uneventful high school. I remember having PE with boys and girls my school was so small. My best memory is when we had to run laps around the gym, one to the “cute,popular, basketball player” boys would run with me encouraging me the whole time even though he could run it with no problem 🙂
Uneventful is pretty good, I think. Sounds like that guy was pretty cool!
Something I remember from high school — skipping school to go to a NKOTB concert. My friend’s mom took us. My dad was SO MAD.

The memory I have of high school is being able to graduate early and get out of there – it was horrible.

I am in the throes if teenage-hood with my daughter. I love how you said EVERYTHING is intense, because yes EVERYTHING is intense with her. I am trying to remember how I felt at that age, but our situations are so different. Thank you for sharing this giveaway and resource with this momma.
Oh my goodness, yes! Intense for sure. I can still remember how it felt. Emotions were high and a few words could sent you soaring or way low. It’s tough!
One of my best memories of high school was probably bonfires with my friends. We had so much fun talking and playing ‘the question game’ (where we would ask a question and everyone answered).

Probably the most vivid memory is having a student in my history class steal my Bible off my desk while the teacher had stepped out and stood in front of the class with his lighter threatening to burn it. I told him there was nothing He could do that would keep me from studying God’s word or loving God, so burning that Bible would simply be a waste of trees and probably get him into trouble. He chose to throw it on the floor at my feet and not burn it. 🙂
Wow! That’s terrible Rebecca! I would say that I can’t believe someone would do that, but I can believe it sadly. Kids are cruel! Good for you for standing up and saying that won’t stop you. 🙂
One of my best memories was graduation day. I really didn’t have a great high school experience.
My favorite memory was going to the Iron Kettle with my friends for breakfast and having fried corn muffins
I really don’t have many good memories of high school. We moved around a lot so I never really felt like I fit in anywhere.
I adored high school! I was involved with theatre so we were always doing something. I played the wicked witch my junior year and my skin still a hint of green a few days later.
I loved being on the Speech and Debate team all four years of high school. It was fun going to speech tournaments almost every weekend!
Met my future husband in 9th grade!
A memory from high school was going to Disney world with the music department. It was really nice to have some ‘freedom’ in another state. Lol
I remember eating wendy’s french fries while I sat under a tree to read during lunch.
I didn’t go to high school. (I was homeschooled.)
I remember co-op, taking craft classes, which provided a great opportunity to keep our hands busy but also enjoy hanging out with each other.
